Entertaining Tip: Decorative Paper Place Mats

There’s a great market in D.C. called Union Market. When it opened a few years ago, I couldn’t wait to check out the food and shops. Upon entering the market, I couldn’t take my eyes off of one of the shops called Salt & Sundry. Let’s face it. If I were to open a shop, that would be it. I’m obsessed with it and everything in it, especially their paper place mats.

Now, I know that paper place mats aren’t the most earth-friendly option. For every day use, I have jute place mats that I use for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I use these jute place mats every day of the week since they are reusable, durable, and match my decor style.

When hosting dinner guests, I like to change up the look and feel of our dining table. Even though I serve everything on our everyday white dinnerware, I like to swap out the burlap place mats in exchange for paper place mats. Now, you’re probably thinking, “Paper place mats for dinner guests?”

Yes. The answer is “yes.” Why? Because they add so much dimension to a table setting.

I moved out of the city and into the burbs a few months ago. When I’m running low on these gems, my brother-in-law helps me keep my paper place mats in stock. Talk about an awesome brother-in-law. Am I right or am I right?

The place mats that I found at Salt & Sundry come in a package of 50. I simply rip out the amount of sheets that I need, place them on the table, set the table as I normally would, and voila. I have a table that is dressed to impress with very little effort.

From dressing your table to giving a hostess gift, these paper place mats are one of my favorite items. Simple, beautiful and functional … what’s not to love?
