10 Favorite Things: Issue No. 10

From home decor to cute discoveries, this past week was full of some of my favorite things.

10 Favorite Things

1.) First and foremost, I need to send a MAJOR thank you to my father-in-law. Last week, my father-in-law and mother-in-law arrived at our house ready to tackle major projects and watch our son, respectively. After six days at our house, my father-in-law left us with a new kitchen subway backsplash, new light fixtures both on the interior and exterior of our home, a new fan fixture in one of our guest bedrooms, a beautiful new front door that he stained and created perfectly, and expertly hung wall decor. Excuse me while I continue to try and escape my state of shock.

In six days he killed it and left us with what feels like a new house. As for my mother-in-law, I couldn’t be more thankful for all of the time that she spent with our son as I worked. Major, major, major hugs full of appreciation, love, and endless gratitude.

2.) I found two freckles on our two-year-old son. I’m covered in freckles and absolutely love them. One of my favorite sayings? “A face without freckles is like a sky without stars.” One of my favorite things about my husband? He loves my freckles. One of my favorite things about my son? When I ask him “What are these?” as I point to my freckles, he says in the cutest voice ever, “Freckles.”

The other day while we were snuggling on the couch, I looked at his leg and saw a small dark spot. I scratched at it lightly, thinking that it was a crumb. It didn’t come off. I shouted, “Is that a freckle?” My husband walked over and scratched lightly on the spot too. He said, “Yes, that’s a freckle.” And then my eyes watered. And then I found another freckle. And then my eyes watered again. My heart was so full. Tonight, while I was putting our son in his pajamas, hep pointed at his freckle. I asked, “What is that?” He responded, “Freckles.” Oh my goodness.

3.) Yesterday, my son and I headed to the city to check out my husband’s new office, meet his co-workers, and take him out to lunch. My son was born in D.C. But, shortly after he was born, we put our house up for sale and moved to the ‘burbs about an hour away from the city. Since then, we’ve visited the city but he didn’t really seem to aware of his surroundings. This trip? It was a whole different story.

From the moment we crossed the bridge into the city, he saw the monuments and cranes. He kept looking around and saying “Oh my!” over and over again as he took in all of the sights and sounds. From the endless “Oh mys” to meeting my husband’s co-workers, to watching our son wave to everyone who walked by as we enjoyed lunch, we had a great little adventure in the city.

4.) What’s my favorite outfit? Click here and share your style uniform.

5.) I made this casserole a few days ago and we enjoyed devouring it for dinner on Sunday and Monday. P.S. I switched out the broccoli with frozen peas, one of my favorite kitchen staples.

6.) A few days ago it was March 14 aka 3/14 aka 3.14 aka Pi(e) Day. How did you celebrate Pi Day? My favorite pie? I was craving Key Lime Pie all day yesterday. I was texting with my Dad yesterday about Pi Day and we agreed to enjoy a slice of Key Lime Pie together during my parent’s visit in a few weeks.

7.) This week is St. Patrick’s Day week. I cannot wait to make Corned Beef and Cabbage tomorrow. Let the countdown begin. Here’s a St. Patrick’s Day recipe roundup full of cheerful and flavorful dishes.

8.) I recently purchased this hair volumizer and fell in love with it over the past few days.

9.) My father-in-law installed (see #1 on this list) this chandelier in our dining room and I’m pretty obsessed with it.

10.) I discovered 30 day workout challenges on my phone. From abs to arms to cardio to legs … talk about awesome. Hello, swimsuit season. I’m getting ready for ya.

What’s one of your favorite things from the past week?
