Cleaning Habit: Wash Salt and Pepper Shakers

Whether you use them to cook or you keep them on the dinner table at the ready during every meal, salt and pepper shakers get dirty and collect germs over time. In my house, we have mason jar handled salt and pepper shakers that add to the farmhouse, rustic decor that we have throughout our home. I absolutely love the handles and they hold just the perfect amount of salt and pepper. What scares me about them? The heavy use in our house, and I’m not talking salt content. I’m talking bacteria.

When was the last time you washed your salt and pepper shakers? If you haven’t done so in a long time, please be sure to add this task to your chore list this week. Simply empty the contents, wash them with hot and soapy water, and allow them to dry completely before adding fresh contents back into the containers.

This is such a simple task that will help keep your kitchen gear bacteria-free.

How often do you clean your salt and pepper shakers?
