The Importance of Having a Hobby

Between juggling family life and work life, life, as a whole, has a tendency to fly by. Waking up early, going to bed late, trying to squeeze in as many special moments with my family while trying to make sure my work emails are tended to … sometimes I find it difficult to breathe. Days can be tiresome yet so rewarding. Tasks can be daunting yet so gratifying. Needs can be burdensome yet relaxing. Days turn into months turn into years … and everything just seems to fly by.

That’s why it’s important to make sure you get me time. You’re so busy taking care of everyone and everything else. But, where do you come into the picture? For me, I’m all about having a hobby. Without a creative outlet, I would lose myself in the mix of everyday life.

This blog is where I go to excite my creative side. My photography business is yet another creative outlet. Decorating my home is a creative outlet that makes me feel comfortable. Throw cooking into the mix and you can probably see that I’m a strong believer in having many creative outlets.

Why do I believe that having a hobby is important?

Benefits of Having a Hobby

1.)  Take a break.

We’re always going, going, going. Our schedules are packed to the brim. Our calendars barely have any openings on them. Our to do lists are like an ever-growing pile of laundry. Start a hobby that you absolutely love and you’ll find that you make yourself take breaks from everyday life to enjoy your hobby.

2.) Get a stress relief.

I’ve noticed that when I’m feeling incredibly stressed, I turn to my hobbies and creative outlets to relieve my stress. Enjoying a hobby is an easy way to distract you from the everyday life stresses and give you a moment to breathe.

3.) Challenge yourself.

From coloring to knitting to working out to blogging, every hobby offers a fun challenge that allows you to expand, grow, learn, and be challenged in a fun, enjoyable way.

Although finding a new hobby might not be easy (and finding time to do the hobby might be even more difficult), when you do discover a hobby you enjoy, the perks and benefits are incredible. Keep an open mind, be willing to try new things, get excited to grow, and have fun developing and enjoying your hobby (or hobbies and creative outlets, if you’re like me).

What’s your favorite hobby?
