I’m just going to come right out and say it … I love fish. I
always have. From salmon to tilapia, mackerel to white fish, tuna to sea bass –
there’s a special place in my heart for fish.

Much to my chagrin, I married a person who happened to be
the exact opposite. My favorite dinner? Salmon grilled on a cedar plank with
grilled vegetables and roasted potatoes. My husband’s favorite dinner? Steak
drizzled with sautéed mushrooms and onions, grilled vegetables, and baby
redskin potatoes. So, as you can see, we both love our vegetables and potatoes.
However, when it comes to the main dish, we could not be more opposite.

If it were up to me, I would eat salmon multiple times a
week since it’s easy to prepare, full of flavor, and incredibly nutritious. The
latest nutritional guidelines tell us how important seafood is to a healthy
diet. Did you know that two servings a week are recommended, but very few of us
actually eat that much seafood? Since marrying my husband, I’ve definitely put
fish on the backburner to make mealtime simple and enjoyable for both of us.

Fortunately, this meat-loving man that I married has found
it in himself to venture to the fish side a few times throughout the years. One
night not too long ago, we were just starting out on our typical date night
(stop at the grocery store, visit the butcher, head home to enjoy a bottle of
wine and a grilled dinner). While at our house getting ready to head to the
store, I could tell that my husband was up to something. I looked at him and
asked, “What’s going on over there?” He looked at me and said, “Let’s grill
fish tonight.”

I just about fell on the floor.

While at the store, he selected tilapia and I, of course,
picked out a great looking piece of salmon. We tossed some cedar planks into the
cart, along with fresh veggies and other sides. Words could not express the
excitement and joy that washed over me in anticipation of dinner.

When the food was plated, I watched my husband’s every move
as he started to take a bite of his tilapia. One bite, two bites, three bites …
then bam … the whole piece of fish was devoured. My husband looked at me with a
smile on his face and said, “That was delicious.”

Thank goodness I was sitting on a chair because I definitely
would have fallen on the floor.

Now that he loves fish (alright, maybe love is too strong of
a word at the moment but I’m determined to make it happen), I’ve been trying to
find ways to make serving fish in our house simple and enjoyable. Since he
loves tilapia and I love salmon, I came across a great product that makes it
readily available any night of the week in our home.

Bumble Bee SuperFresh Tilapia

Have you ever heard of Bumble Bee SuperFresh™? If not, the
next time you’re at the store (and if you like/love fish), be sure to grab a
few packages from the freezer section. Yes, I said “freezer section.” For those
who know me very well, the only items I have in my freezer are

You know me, I’m all about making time spent in the kitchen
simple and enjoyable. I’m also all about great, natural ingredients since they
help take the flavor of recipes up a notch. That’s why I fell in love with this
product. With only premium quality salmon, tilapia, and shrimp, the seafood is
cleaned, cut, and fresh-frozen within hours.

Whether it’s a premium cut of salmon or a beautiful tilapia
fillet, Bumble Bee SuperFresh™ insists that their fish be tender, fork-flaky,
and succulent to the taste buds. The company strives to keep the texture of the
seafood as delightful as if you went fishing and brought home fresh fish. Flash-freezing
within hours to carefully monitored below-freezing temperatures in transit, the
seafood you take home to cook is as close to just-caught as they can deliver.

From frozen to table in 30 minutes, their seafood recipes
are designed to be baked or sautéed right out of the freezer—no thawing, even
for 5 minutes. Fillets go right into their parchment jackets (included) and
into the oven. Shrimp go from freezer to sauté pan. Salmon bakes to perfection in 20 minutes; Tilapia in 17. Shrimp sautees to a delicious doneness in about 6 minutes.

If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you might
notice that I love natural ingredients. With Bumble Bee SuperFresh™, that’s
what you get. They use nothing but all-natural ingredients in chef-inspired
recipes. Each recipe is ‘fish forward’, with seasonings chosen to complement
the fresh fish flavor, not cover it up.

The natural ingredients are like those you would use
yourself: extra virgin olive oil, parmesan cheese, creamery butter, fresh
garlic, lemon juice from lemons, not concentrate, sea salt, pure cane sugar,
natural herbs and spices. The products have ‘clean’ label: all ingredients are
real and natural. They use no chemicals or preservatives or mystery ingredients
you need a science degree to pronounce.

For those who are worried about the sodium content, the
Bumble Bee SuperFresh™ ‘facts up front’ label puts sodium content front and
center (e.g. Salmon with Garden Pesto contains 170mg per serving, or 7% of
daily value).

Finally, preparing premium seafood at home is easier than
grilling a burger! Plus, it helps to satisfy my love of salmon and my husband’s
newfound love of tilapia. What’s not to love?

What’s your favorite kind of fish?

  1. Unlike salmon, tilapia is actually not very healthy for consumption. It's also a bottom feeder fish like catfish. Salmon yes, Tilapia no.
