{BlogHer Food} The Foodie’s Conference

Let me first start off by apologizing. As you probably noticed, life on How To: Simplify has been on the quiet side lately…but that doesn’t mean that I haven’t been living it up outside the confines of these columns. In fact, it’s just the opposite. With spring in all of its beauty in the D.C. area, I’ve been taking the time to cultivate my flower beds, plant my herbs, do a little bit of spring cleaning…and well, hang out with food bloggers.
Instead of spending time with my oven this past weekend, I packed my bags and headed down to Atlanta for the BlogHer Food conference that happened to be nothing short of amazing. I’ve been blogging for a few days short of two years and I have met so many wonderful and supportive friends along the way. However, most of these meet and greets have taken place through tweets, emails, and comments on posts.
Being able to hug and chat with people I’ve met along the way, as well as meeting some of my favorite foodies for the first time ever, was the highlight of my trip. We sat through sessions filled with many of the top-notch foodies out there and listened to them share their views on food photography, vlogging, recipe development, social networking, branding, and recipe writing to name a few. We sipped, tasted, smelled all of the wonderful flavors that the city of Atlanta had to offer and left with bellies full of sinfully delicious food from restaurants such as Star Provisions. We chatted with the sponsors and learned all about their upcoming campaigns and ways in which they are exploring the foodie world. We escaped the hotel and enjoyed all of the sights, sounds, and good eats at one of my favorite places, the Sweet Auburn Curb Market.
If there’s one thing you should know about me when it comes to urban living, it’s that I absolutely love farmers’ markets. I believe I get this love of markets from my Mom since we always find a way to go to one whenever we’re together. The Sweet Auburn Curb Market was added to my list of favorite markets. This market offers row after endless row of an exotic array of fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, cheeses, and fish.

A selection of small cafes serve daily meals that range from soul food to gourmet Italian cuisine to one of the best burgers in the city. Trust me, if you ever visit Atlanta and you love burgers, you must stop by the Grind House in the market and order the Cowboy-style burger with onion rings. You won’t be disappointed. I mean, just look at that bacon. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

After a fun-filled day at the market, it was back to business…and by business, I mean laughing, sharing stories, offering supportive advice, enjoying each other’s company, and pinching ourselves as we all realized how great the weekend truly was. And, as the weekend was coming to a close, we danced the night away, enjoyed cocktails, and parted ways with hugs.

Thank you so much to the organizers and sponsors of BlogHer Food for putting on such an eventful and worthwhile conference. I’m so thankful that I had an opportunity to reconnect with foodie friends as well as meet so many new friends. I cannot wait until our paths cross in the future.

  1. It was a great conference, wasn't it? And it was a pleasure to meet you and share a shuttle ride to the airport for our respective flights home. I hope that we will meet up again at another conference sometime!

  2. It was a great weekend. Sorry our paths didn't cross. Loved the Market! And sampling all the sponsors wares (lugging all that stuff back to Maui was a pain but I'll take it!).
I was happy to pick up some helpful information at each session I attended which I hope to incorporate into my blogging.
    Cheers!
