Cinnamon Roll Waffles with Cinnamon Drizzle

Life is full of guilty pleasures. Fashion, music, food … you name it, they can be found all over the place. Throw a baby bump into the mix and you might find yourself craving things that you have never craved in the past. That’s right, my guilty pleasures lately have fallen under the realm of food. I’ve been so focused on trying to eat healthy for myself and for the baby. I always keep a refrigerated stocked full of salad fixings and the counters topped with all sorts of fruits to help hold me over throughout the day.

However, there are those moments that sneak up on me and make my taste buds become unrecognizable to me. The primary guilty pleasure for me has been chocolate. Specifically, chocolate and caramel combined. Hello, Ghirardelli Milk & Caramel squares. Yes, I’m in love with chocolate. I’m not sure who I have become but I do know that this baby is taking after his/her chocoholic father.

Even though my biggest craving has been chocolate, I’ve also caught myself eyeing other sweet treats that were never of major interest to me prior to the baby bump. As they say, there are the sweet people and the salty people. While my husband falls under the sweet category, I used to label myself a salty person. This whole “craving sweets” thing has been a new feeling for me and I’ve tried to refrain from indulging too much, even when I’ve been teased left and right with all sorts of sweet treats.

Take for example the other day when I was walking through the airport. Enter the Cinnabon store. I could smell the store as soon as I exited the airplane. The sweet, gooey, warm scent was calling my name. I followed my nose and took one look to the right … aha! I could see the store and I immediately felt drawn to the warmth and happiness. And that’s when my willpower set in, thankfully. I put my head down and powered past the massive tease. The feeling that washed over me in that moment was filled with pride and achievement.

The craving went away … only to come back again (and strong) when I was spending some time on Pinterest doing a bit of research the other day. Enter the easiest Cinnamon Roll Waffles recipe ever. I caught myself staring at the photo for a few minutes. I knew right then and there that I just had to make that recipe in order to satisfy the craving that I buried during the previous week.

So, what did I do? This morning, I remembered that I had a cinnamon roll package in my refrigerator. I whipped out my waffle iron and got to work creating these Cinnamon Roll Waffles with Cinnamon Drizzle. I planned on eating one and gave the rest to my husband to enjoy. After I enjoyed one in a matter of seconds, I immediately eyed my husband’s plate.

I casually walked over to the living room, snagged one off of his plate, and enjoyed the second one in a matter of seconds.

Thankfully, I was able to cut myself off after two … even though it was incredibly difficult. Here’s hoping that my cinnamon roll craving has subsided. However, I highly doubt it, knowing this newly found sweet tooth that has entered my life.
