I look forward to Thanksgiving all year long. I’m one of those people who loves the fall season, loves to decorate my home with fall decor, loves pumpkins and all of their orange beauty, and loves to prepare dish after dish of fall comfort food. Enter Thanksgiving. This is the holiday that combines all of my loves into one, wonderful day…and for that, I’m thankful.
Usually, my husband and I host Thanksgiving at our house. I make large portions of homemade recipes and welcome family and friends to our table to enjoy the feast, especially our friends who cannot make it home for the holiday. Having everyone sit at my table, enjoying a meal that I prepared is one of my favorite moments – regardless of whether or not it’s Thanksgiving.
This year, I’m hanging up my apron. I know, I’m shocked too. I cannot believe that I won’t be preparing Thanksgiving dinner this year. Instead, we’ll be spending Thanksgiving with my family as we witness my nephew feast on his first ever Thanksgiving turkey. I wonder if he’ll like turkey as much as I do.
Growing up, we would spend Thanksgiving at my grandpa’s house. He definitely did not like turkey as much as I do. We would always have a friendly argument about the turkey that was served on Thanksgiving. He was a ham man. I am a turkey girl. He couldn’t wait to hurry through Thanksgiving dinner because he knew that Christmas dinner was right around the corner. Why would he look forward to Christmas dinner? Ham was always served.
Since I’m not a fan of ham, I would and still do devour the turkey served on Thanksgiving. I always look forward to piling my plate high with turkey, stuffing, green beans, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and gravy. This year, since I’m not making a Thanksgiving feast on the actual day of celebration, I decided to treat the Mom It Forward community (and you, of course) to a Thanksgiving feast leading up to the big day. So far, I’ve prepared the following:
- Thanksgiving Appetizer Recipe: Arugula, Brie, and Cranberry Crostini
- Thanksgiving Side Dish Recipe: Fresh Green Bean Casserole
