How To Add Texture to Baked Treats

I have a confession. I’m incredibly, overwhelmingly, and unconditionally in love with chocolate thanks to this pregnancy. I’m telling you, this baby has really opened up my eyes to the wonderful world of chocolate and I cannot get enough of it.

From ice cream to cookies, milkshakes to candies — I crave chocolate at least a handful of times throughout the day and I cannot focus until I satisfy my craving. In fact, the moment that I started thinking and writing about chocolate, the baby made all sorts of movements. Yes, I have a feeling this baby is going to have quite a sweet tooth.

I think one of the things that I love most about chocolate is that it is so versatile. From baked goods to cold drinks — as previously mentioned, a person can enjoy chocolate in all sorts of forms. Also, as we all know, chocolate comes in different colors, shapes, sizes, flavors, and textures. Why I was never a massive fan of chocolate prior to pregnancy is beyond me. What’s not to love about a treat that aims to please and provides so much joy?

Speaking of texture, did you know that texture is an essential component to any great taste experience? Since I have chocolate on the mind, here are some tips on how to add texture to baked goods.

How To Add Texture to Baked Treats

  • Add Chunks of Goodies: Instead of plain sugar cookies, why not dress up your cookies recipe with chunks of chocolate or pieces of walnuts? The bigger the chunks, the more texture.
  • Sprinkle with Sea Salt: Items like chocolate-flavored cookies pair well with a sprinkle of sea salt. When you remove the baked treat from the oven, transfer to a wire rack and sprinkle the tops of the baked treats with sea salt.
  • Apply a Drizzle: Are you making a quick bread or baking cookies? If so, think about adding a drizzle to the baked treat once the food has cooled. The addition of a drizzle will give your baked treat a rustic appearance. Plus, people will crave the drizzle flavor.
  • Add a Crumble Topping: Baked treats like muffins always look a bit rustic and textured when a crumble topping is added right before placing the batter into the oven. When you take the muffins out of the oven, the crumble topping will be nice and toasted. The end result is a bakery-style muffin with a crunchy, flavorful topping.
  • Use a Filling: Have you ever tasted a muffin that was stuffed with cream cheese filling? Or, what about a cookie that was full of hazelnut spread? On the outside, the baked treat might look run of the mill. However, one bit and the taste buds will immediately explode due to the secret filling.
